September is the best single month of the year for Turkey. The sea stays at 25 to 26C, balloon flights run at the year's peak reliability of 95 percent plus, Cappadocia hiking returns to comfortable conditions, Istanbul cools to perfect walking weather, and crowds ease meaningfully after August's school-holiday peak. If you missed May, this is your window.
Istanbul: 25C high, 17C low — perfect walking weather, evenings warm but pleasant. Cappadocia: 25C high, 11C low — afternoons warm, mornings crisp, hiking conditions back to peak. The Istanbul Biennial runs in odd years (next in 2027) — a citywide contemporary art event with installations across multiple venues. The International Bodrum Cup yacht race programs late September. Cappadocia harvest season starts mid-month — wineries in Urgup and Uchisar open for tastings. The Istanbul Music Festival continues into early September. Evening atmosphere across all cities is at its strongest of the year — warm enough for outdoor dinners, cool enough to want a sweater.

October is Cappadocia's most photogenic month and Istanbul at its single best walking-weather window. Fairy-chimney valleys turn copper and gold, balloon flights still run reliably, and morning light sits at its most flattering angle. The coast delivers a final swimmable window in the first half of the month. Crowds ease further from September, and prices drop into proper shoulder rates from mid-month.
Istanbul: 19C high, 13C low, perfect walking weather. Cappadocia: 18C high, 6C low — afternoons mild, mornings crisp, evenings cool. The valleys are at their year's most photogenic, with poplars, apricot, and pistachio trees turning gold against the pink-ivory rock. Antalya: 27C high, 17C low, sea at 23 to 24C in the first half of the month, dropping to 21C by month's end. Bodrum: 23C, sea 21C — borderline swimmable, wetsuit-worthy by late month.
Everything is open through mid-October. Cappadocia remains fully open at peak operations through the end of the month. Istanbul stays at full operation year-round. The coast starts a progressive shutdown in the second half of October — Bodrum and Fethiye resort hotels wind down, Antalya resort hotels mostly continue through end of month before closing in early November. Pamukkale and Ephesus are at near-perfect ruins-touring weather.
October 29 — Republic Day, the most important Turkish national holiday, with parades, fireworks, and the Bosphorus illuminated in red and white. Hotels in central Istanbul and Ankara fill rapidly for the date — book early. The Akbank Jazz Festival starts late October and runs into early November in Istanbul. Cappadocia's harvest and wine season hits its peak — Urgup and Uchisar wineries open for tastings, the Cappadocia Wine Festival programs across the month. The Istanbul Marathon falls in early November but training events happen late October.

Istanbul: 14C high, 9C low, rain on roughly 11 of 30 days. Damp, grey, atmospheric — the city's winter character setting in. Cappadocia: 11C high, 1C low, with first snow possible from mid-November though typically arriving from mid-December. Antalya: 21C high, 12C low, sea at 19C — too cold to swim. Bodrum: 18C, sea 17C — same situation. The coast is in active shutdown mode by mid-month.
Istanbul is fully open at normal operations. Cappadocia is fully open and balloons fly at a 75 to 85 percent reliability rate — declining through the month as cold and pressure systems set in. Antalya resort hotels close progressively through November, with most shut by month's end; Antalya old town (Kaleici) stays operational year-round. Bodrum, Fethiye, Kas — effectively closed for the resort experience by mid-month. Pamukkale stays open at year's quietest crowd levels.
The Istanbul Marathon falls in the first weekend of November — the only marathon in the world that crosses two continents on foot, runners going Asian to European side over the Bosphorus Bridge. Hotels near the route fill the night before. November 10 is Atatürk Memorial Day, the entire country observing a moment of silence at 9:05 a.m. (Atatürk's death time) — sirens sound, traffic stops, museums close briefly. The Akbank Jazz Festival continues from October into early November.
