How we pick

Every property in these collections has been editorially reviewed against the same four criteria, applied identically across all 22 cities: a Trip.com / TripAdvisor / Google review average above 8.5 across 200+ reviews sustained for at least 12 months; location inside the neighborhood it represents (we've walked there); a consistent best-for fit (a "couples" pick can't have a karaoke pool deck, a "family" pick can't have a 9pm cocktail-only restriction); and an editorial visit within the past 24 months. What rejects a hotel: persistent cleanliness complaints, sustained value issues, missing accessibility info on a property that markets to it, or anything our visit found that contradicts marketing claims.

What we don't do: PR-funded trips, comped stays, paid placements, or guaranteed inclusion. Editorial visits are paid in full at our published rates. Hotel staff and PRs occasionally send blurbs — we rewrite from our own visit notes. Read the full editorial standards.

How to use these collections

Each collection focuses on a single decision axis — honeymooners care about different things than families, who care about different things than business travelers. Pick the collection that matches your trip's center of gravity, then narrow by city using the per-city neighborhood guides we link from every pick. The collection page tells you "which hotel in which city for this kind of trip"; the city page tells you "which neighborhood, and what to skip."

Pricing in the collection cards is the editorial "from" rate — typical lowest-double-room in the property's main season, refreshed quarterly. Live rates always rule; click through to Trip.com via any "Check rates" button to see today's price for your dates.

Collection questions

How often are these refreshed?

The shortlists are reviewed every six months; pricing snapshots refresh in March and September. Cities themselves are visited at least annually. If you spot a hotel that's closed or substantially changed, email the editor — we aim to correct within 7 days.

Do you take payment from any of these hotels?

No. Our affiliate revenue comes from Trip.com bookings made through the "Check rates" links — Trip.com pays a small commission on confirmed stays at no cost to you. The commission does not change which hotels we list. Every property would be on the list whether or not we earned anything.

What if my city / region isn't here?

The collections deliberately surface a small number of best-in-class options across the whole country. For comprehensive city coverage use the 22 city guides directly. The regional hubs group cities geographically (Aegean, Mediterranean, Cappadocia, Black Sea, Eastern Anatolia) if you'd rather think by region than by theme.
