Bodrum's beaches are mostly small coves (koy) with pebble or sand-and-pebble mix, not long sandy strips. The big exception is the north coast around Yalıkavak and Gümüşlük, where you get more sand. Most beaches are backed by beach clubs or hotels, so public access is limited. The tradeoff: Bodrum has barely any sand; expect pebbles or coarse sand. If you want a proper sandy beach, head to the north or take a boat trip. The water is generally clear, but the best swimming is away from the marina.

Amenities: Sunbeds 30 TL, cafes, restaurants, public park.
Practical notes
Sunbed rental prices range from 30 TL at quieter beaches to 150 TL at upscale clubs like Türkbükü. Usually you pay for the sunbed and umbrella separately, or sometimes it's free with a minimum spend at the restaurant. Beach clubs often have a day-pass (around 200-400 TL) that includes a sunbed, towel, and sometimes lunch. Public beach sections are free but often crowded – look for signs saying 'Halk Plajı'. Water temperature: June-September 24-28°C, May and October 20-23°C. Jellyfish are rare but can appear in late summer; sea urchins are a risk on rocky bottoms – wear water shoes. Most beaches have showers and changing cabins for a small fee.
Which beach is right for you
Families with toddlers: Bitez or Yalıkavak for shallow, calm water. Snorkelers: Pabuçburnu or Gümüşlük for clear water and rocky areas. Sunbathers wanting full service: Türkbükü or Yalıkavak beach clubs. Walkers wanting nobody around: Pabuçburnu or the far end of Akyarlar. Sailors anchoring overnight: Gümüşlük bay or Yalıkavak marina.
