Cave suites in Cappadocia, a Bosphorus-view Istanbul hotel, and 3 nights at a clifftop boutique on the Mediterranean. Built around private dinners, sunset balloons, and zero tour buses.
This itinerary is for couples who want a taste of Turkey's three big hits: Istanbul's layered history, Cappadocia's lunar landscapes, and the turquoise coast around Kaş. It works best if you're willing to trade depth for variety — you'll see a lot but move fast. The tradeoff: Cappadocia gets only one full day, so if hot air balloon cancellations or bad weather strike, you may miss the region's best moments. Book flexible flights and consider adding a day in Cappadocia if you can.
We skip the cliché 'romantic sunset dinner' packages and instead focus on experiences that actually feel intimate: a private guide through Sultanahmet (no crowds), a hammam morning without the tourist rush, and a boat day on Kekova that's just you and the sea. Kaş is a better base than Antalya for couples — smaller, walkable, with real fishing-town character. You'll sleep in a cave suite in Göreme, a waterfront hotel in Kaş, and a boutique hotel in Sultanahmet. This is a trip for couples who like planning but hate being herded.

Land at Istanbul Airport (IST), take the Havaist bus (€4, 90 minutes) or a pre-booked transfer (€35) to Sultanahmet. Check into a boutique hotel near the Blue Mosque — walkable to everything. Rest, then head to Eminönü around 7pm for a Bosphorus dinner cruise. Skip the overpriced tourist boats; book a 2-hour public ferry from Beşiktaş (€3) and grab meze from a shop beforehand. Sit on the upper deck, watch the lights of Ortaköy and the Bosphorus Bridge. Dinner at a lokanta in Karaköy after — try Balıkçı Sabahattin for fish, but go early (7:30pm) or queue.

Meet your guide at 8:30am at the Hippodrome. Spend 3 hours on Hagia Sophia (entry €25) and the Basilica Cistern (€20) — skip Topkapı Palace unless you love crowds; it's a 2-hour queue. Walk through the Arasta Bazaar (less aggressive than the Grand Bazaar) for carpets and ceramics. Lunch at a döner spot in Sirkeci (€5). Afternoon: Süleymaniye Mosque (free, better views than Blue Mosque) and the Spice Bazaar. Evening: walk to Galata Tower (€20 to go up, but the view from Galata Bridge is free). Dinner in Cihangir — try a meyhane like Asmalı Cavit for rakı and meze. Stay in Sultanahmet.

Start at 9am with a hammam at Çemberlitaş Hammamı (€30, couples package €50) — 20 minutes in the hot marble, a scrub, and a foam massage. Avoid the touristy ones near Sultanahmet. By 11am, take the ferry from Kabataş to Büyükada (€3, 75 minutes). Rent bicycles (€5/hour) to explore the island — no cars allowed. Lunch at a fish restaurant on the waterfront (€15/person). Skip the horse-drawn carriages (overpriced and sad for the horses). Return by 5pm, rest, then dinner at a rooftop restaurant in Sultanahmet with a view of Hagia Sophia (book ahead).
Base: Cappadocia · Cappadocia guide
Take a 7am flight from Istanbul (SAW) to Kayseri (€50-70, 1.5 hours). Pre-book a transfer to Göreme (€20, 45 minutes). Check into a cave-suite hotel in Göreme — ask for a room with a terrace and valley view. Spend the afternoon walking the Rose Valley (2-hour loop, easy). Skip the Göreme Open Air Museum (overpriced at €25 and crowded). Instead, visit the Uçhisar Castle (€5) for sunset views. Dinner at a local restaurant in Göreme — try Testi Kebab (pottery kebab) at Dibek. Sleep early: balloon pickup is 4am.
Base: Cappadocia · Cappadocia guide
4am pickup for hot air balloon (€150-200/person). Flight lasts 1 hour over the fairy chimneys. If cancelled (common in windy months), ask for a same-day refund or rebook for next morning. Back at hotel by 8am for breakfast. Rest until noon. Afternoon: rent a scooter (€25/day) or take a guided ATV tour (€40/person, 2 hours) through the valleys — Love Valley and Red Valley. Sunset from the ATV is better than any organised 'sunset point'. Skip the pottery workshops in Avanos (touristy). Dinner at a cave restaurant in Göreme — try Seten for Anatolian cuisine. Stay in Göreme.
Base: Kaş · Kaş guide
Early flight from Kayseri to Antalya (€60, 1.5 hours). From Antalya airport, take the Havaş bus to Kaş (€10, 3 hours) or rent a car (€30/day) for flexibility. Check into a waterfront hotel in Kaş — stay in the old town near the harbour. Lunch at a fish meyhane on the harbour (€12/person). Afternoon: walk the Lycian Way trail from the town centre to the ancient theatre (free, 20 minutes). Skip the Kaputaş Beach (too crowded and far). Instead, swim at a local spot like Büyük Çakıl Beach. Dinner at a rooftop restaurant with sea view — try Mavi Kaş for meze.
Base: Kaş · Kaş guide
Book a private boat tour (€150-200 for two, 6 hours) from Kaş harbour at 10am. Sail to Kekova Island, see the sunken city from the boat (no swimming allowed there), then stop at Üçağız for lunch (€15/person). Swim in the clear coves around Simena Castle. Skip the group tours (too crowded, rushed). Return to Kaş by 5pm. Evening: walk the old town, buy spices or olive oil from local shops. Dinner at a garden restaurant in Kaş — try Oburus for modern Turkish food. Stay in Kaş.
Base: Istanbul · Istanbul guide
Take a morning bus from Kaş to Antalya airport (€10, 3 hours) or pre-book a transfer (€80). Fly from Antalya to Istanbul (€40-60, 1.5 hours). If your international flight is from Istanbul, allow 3 hours at IST. If you have a few hours, grab a last simit and tea at the airport. Otherwise, head straight to departure. This day is mostly travel — don't plan anything else. The itinerary is tight; you'll be tired but satisfied.
$1,800-2,400 per person: international flights $500-700, internal flights $200-300, hotels $600-900 (8 nights mid-range), meals + activities $500-700 (balloon $200, boat $150, hammam $50, guide $100).
Plug your dates and tier into our trip cost calculator for a live number. Long-stay travelers and shoulder-season visitors will land at the lower end; July-August couples should plan for 25-40% above the top of these ranges.
Beyond the standard Turkey packing list:
You could, but you'd cut Kaş or Cappadocia. 6 days means either Istanbul + Cappadocia (skip Kaş) or Istanbul + Kaş (skip balloons). This 8-day version is already compressed — dropping a day would mean sacrificing either the boat trip or the balloon flight. If you must shorten, skip Kaş and add a day to Cappadocia.
Balloon cancellations happen often in April and November due to wind. If cancelled, ask your operator for a full refund or rebook for the next morning. Since you only have one day in Cappadocia, you won't have a second chance. Consider booking a sunrise hike in Rose Valley as a backup — it's free and almost as beautiful.
Yes, but it's designed for couples. Solo travelers will pay more for private guides and boat tours (no sharing). The hammam and balloon are fine solo, but the boat day is cheaper if you join a group. Kaş is safe and walkable alone. You might feel awkward at romantic dinner spots, but no safety issues.
No. This itinerary is easy to book yourself. Flights: Turkish Airlines or Pegasus. Hotels: Booking.com or direct. Balloon: book directly with Royal Balloon or Butterfly (€150-200). Boat: walk the Kaş harbour and negotiate. Tours charge 30-50% more for the same thing. The only exception is the private guide in Istanbul — book through a local agency like Istanbul Walks.
May or September. April can be rainy in Istanbul and windy for balloons. June-August is hot (35°C) and crowded in Kaş. October is pleasant but balloon cancellations rise. November is too cold for swimming in Kaş. May gives you wildflowers in Cappadocia and warm sea in Kaş. Book balloon early in May.
